Roomates never get old...just older:)

This last weekend we traveled down to Utah for my younger brother's wedding (that will get its own entertaining blog later) but I had to stop and say HOLLA to some of my old roommates who for some funny reason all ended up in Utah:) I swiped the picture below from Aubrey's blog (thanks Aubs!) but it was so fun to see them all and the great moms they have become. Emma was working so she didn't make the pic but we visited her at her sweet office later. Thanks for letting me stop by, ladies. Next time maybe we'll include some cake:)!

Law of the Harvest

If you plant it, it might grow and if it does grow you must pick. This week our tomatoes got to maximum redness and we went a picking. We lost one to the ground (sneaky little sucker) but the others were all ours. Dana claims they are the best tomatoes he's had in a loooong time. We have three more coming in so hopefully soon we'll have enough for a pizza topping(yummy!)

Editor's Note

So...remember that blog where I told you all the cool stuff we did for our 5th anniversary (hint, see below), well, we didn't do any of those things. Okay, we still had dinner at Olive Garden (yum) and still went shopping at Bed, Bath, and Beyond but then Dana decided we should take an impromptu, spur of the moment trip. So he surprised me with a CRUISE...
...through the forest. Boo Yeah! We packed up some granola bars, a camelback, and went on a leisurely four hour stroll through Rainier National Park. It was the best and even though my calves are screaming right now, I do have the most spectacular husband for getting me out into the great outdoors. Warning: lots of photos of trees below (how original for the Gailans).

You know that saying, the grass is always greener? Well...that greener place is Washington.

Very cool suspension bridge above a river...a river Dana got to soak his foot in after a spectacular stumble coming down the mountain. But at the end of it all, there were huge trees...

Wait...it's been HOW long?

Yes, that's right, you heard me the first time. Today, Dana and I celebrate our 5th anniversary and it blows my mind. He's working today but tomorrow we plan to celebrate with some delicious Olive Garden, a movie, some shopping, and maybe a nap if we can squeeze it in. Just to give you an idea of what the last five years have been like, we've had: one fan-freakingtastic wedding, two gigantic moves, three new jobs, four slightly questionable apartments, and five magical years together.

Babe, just want to say I love ya and wouldn't trade you for anything in the world...not even a dishwasher:)

Green Thumb Indeed

We'd almost given up hope. Our little tomatoes were...well...little. And they stayed little and green and inedible. We decided they were going to be just one more plant I managed to kill and then...WHAM! A few days ago we got this:

Look at that gorgeous color. It's still tiny but soon quite edible. As for the other herbs, they've been used over salmon, pasta, and soon a soup.

The Aftermath

So with the evil bar done and over, we moved on to real summer - lazing around!

Thursday we had the most fabulous day traveling around Bellevue. We had a delicious Indian lunch, visited the REI so Dana could cart around 50lbs in a pack, and then topped it off with massages. I found out I have very tight shoulders (no kidding) and Dana fell asleep (this is funny for later).

Friday we went up to the cabin our Aunt Linda was so gracious enough to let us use. We hiked, ate waaaay too much food, and...slept. Well, Dana slept. It became a reoccuring theme. Read two pages of a book. Fall asleep on the couch. Start the VHS Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Snore. I think he was tired. I was fine as long as I could enjoy that fabulous view. BTW, this is the same cabin we used for the Washington part of our honeymoon so it was kind of a toss back to a simpler, younger time:)

THE BAR

Duh, Duh,Duh! It's been over for a week now but since I always like a good horror movie, I'm going to regale you all with our wonderful week of THE BAR (insert mu ha ha ha here).

It was actually a pretty good week...for me:) We took off Monday for Bellevue (in the beautiful, rainy, forest part of Washington). We checked into the elegant Days Inn where I was sad to see three thousand other neurotic law students were staying.

Tuesday Dana took off for his first day (but not before a lovely morning wake up by the fire alarm. Fun all around!) and I headed off to this: It was a tough day for both of us obviously:) I took Dana back to the Botanical Gardens when he stumbled out around 4 and then he fell into a stupor after a dinner of chicken and sweet rolls.


Wednesday was pretty much the same. I dropped him off, spent an hour lost around Bellevue trying to find a Bally's Total Fitness, scoped out their amazing mall and then picked him up again. Thursday he has the ethics portion of the test (which amusingly was his hardest section...should that worry me?) and when he emerged it was pure jubilation!!! Buh bye bar. We're not sorry to see you go. Congrats to all the law students who gave up three years of their lives and (more recently) a perfectly good summer to study. Now it's the countdown to the pass list in October. And until then...a nap.
