Silly Slippy Snowy

If it's over 40 degrees where you are right now, I hate you a little bit. They predicted a snowy, freezing winter and they were so right. January came in with a chilly blast and has never let up. We have piles of snow down our street. It's meant many instances of cars being stuck, much opportunity for service digging our neighbors out, and a whole lot of cabin fever as we try to entertain a two year old inside all day. One afternoon we tried the mall (which is pretty piddly in Yakima) but Clark seemed to enjoy riding on the lawn mowers and touching every dangerous garden tool within reach.
And yes we did venture outside one or two times into the chilly snow when it was coming down powdery. Clark tried out his new snow pants and awesome new hat. He looks very cool. Unfortunately halfway through January we got a massive ice storm that was super awesome (snarky snarky) and froze all the snow into what is now basically giant white boulders. We did get a late start day out of it though so that was a nice trade off.

And thus we have now fallen into a pattern of inside entertainment. Blocks. Trains. A little Einstein (followed by screaming for more little Einstein), books and chasing each other around the house like wild people. Throw in some random dance parties to JT and Sia and that's basically our weekends aside from going out with friends a whole lot. We had a work party at Cowiche Canyon (our Justin Bieber singing toothbrush and Kate the Duchess of York coloring book were hits on the White Elephant front). We had a night out with the old Bishopric, which is cool with us because Bishop Byers is now President Byers in the Stake so we still see him a lot. And then the next Saturday we had another dinner with the new Bishopric (Eric Reiersen, Jim Penning, and Alan Kearns). Dana is way excited to keep his calling and serve with these awesome men.

Dana has become an awesome train builder and he and Clark are quite cute together.

On the sleeping front, we got over the Christmas cold and had two solid weeks of good sleep on the floor bed. Now we've got another cold so it's an every other night sort of thing when either Dana or I will end up sleeping on the Clark's floor. To save our backs we blew up Dana's camping pad last night and hopefully that will help. We also got roped into a health challenge by our friend Penny and have spent the last three weeks trying to exercise, drink 64 ounces of water and avoid chocolate goodies (we've failed spectacularly at that last one this weekend). Clark joined in and learned to do wall sits.

So happy January everyone...from Dana the 80s hottie.

Christmas with The Clark

Yes Christmas was a loooong time ago but it takes us a while to recover so here's the down low. The Gailans were home bound this year, soaking up all the zero degree temperatures and generally just lazing around. Christmas morning Clark awoke to presents under the tree and was...not impressed. He still doesn't get it. We tried patiently to help him unwrap but really all he wanted to do was play with the first stocking stuff he saw: a dollar store Thomas the Tank Engine car (which I haven't seen in a few weeks come to think of it...hmmm). But the rest of his haul was pretty awesome. Pete the Cat books from Dave and Nikki, more books from mom and dad, an orange from Santa, and a sweet scooter from the parentals! We can't take the scooter outside because of the piles of snow but come spring he's gonna love it!

Our next stop was the Gailan family Christmas at Sonny and Sue's. Clark made off with a very cool wagon and some blocks. He and Stella wasted no time figuring out if they could both squish inside for a ride. PS Stella might be the cutest thing ever. She just started crawling and loves to giggle.

New Years Day we headed up to Ellensburg for fondu and more cousin time. Clark was Anderson's little shadow and almost ate some vegetables under peer pressure but eventually came to himself and spit them out. The funniest part of the day was when we spent ten minutes stuffing the kids into snow gear, took a five minute car ride over to a sledding hill, only to get there and realize the wind was Mach 5 speeds and it wasn't gonna work. Did that stop us? No it did not. We fully got out of the cars, marched up the hill, sat Clark down and gave him a little shove. Unfortunately a gigantic gust of wind happened by so he squeaked to a stop five inches down the hill and promptly fell over screaming. It was hilarious and sad. We all ran back to the cars and gave up. Memories.

Wonderful family time in a low key Christmas!
