Yes...yes it is. This month has packed in some wallops and it's not over yet. Here are the highs and the very very lows:
Dana seems determined to make sure our kids know how to behave at restaurants so on New Years Day weekend we did brunch at Waffles Cafe. The kids did seem to enjoy themselves even if Mom had a hard time paying $10 for a waffle:)
Then Sunday night...juuuust before the sweet relief of school restarting, Mother Nature opened up a can of snow on our little Moxee. It dumped! Enough to make Monday a snow day. Swell. The kids really did enjoy it and it was very pretty for a bit.Tuesday she came roaring in with an ice storm which meant a 2 hour delay. We survived by hiding under laundry baskets for most of the morning.
But by Wednesday the kids were back in school and life was perfect. Until...it wasn't. Thursday was another dumping and another snow day. To stave off insanity we invited the Pyfer boys and Timmy for some fun in the lawn dandruff.
Friday was...super not snowy so the kids went to school and Mom got a break and I'm kidding of course because it was a snow day even with no snow coming down. AHHHHH!!!
So yeah, the first week was pretty grumpy all around. But week 2 started great. Still snow everywhere but kids back in school and Mom catching up on CEs and then oh of course I'm kidding cause Charlotte was exposed to Covid on Monday and got to spend Wednesday, Thursday, basically all the days quarantining at home with me. Mother of Pearl!
But on bright spot was the start of our 12 week swimming lessons. These kids are LOVING it! And I am loving being in a warm, humid room for an hour each week. They take turns having their lessons while the other one plays in the kid zone. It's perfect. Clark is already improving in his strokes and Charlotte is already proving to her teachers that she is a wild child who was born a fish.
Random photo of Char's photo board. Think it might be time to take down the Christmas decor? Which reminds me...guess how long our tree stayed up? Well it was supposed to come down on the 1st cause that's the rule but then we were lazy and then it was Sunday and that's a day of rest. So Monday? Nope, cause that was the giant snow blizzard. So...Tue - let me just skip ahead and tell you never. We never took down our tree. It would be up now still if I hadn't plowed through the snow two and a half week after Christmas to stuff it back in the box. Ugg snow.
But I digress. So, it's now the weekend and Char still has no symptoms but we are quarantining except we aren't cause we still went to Lowes and Costco and then after a covid test on Saturday we tried our first ever Hibachi place with the kids. They loved it, er, that is until the fire. Then Clark hid and Char got this horrified look on her face. She warmed up a little when he did the smoking onion ring volcano but Clark seriously gave the guy nothing but the glare. Mom and Dad clapped enough for us all - especially when we both caught zucchinis in our mouth and when the chef dropped a real egg on the floor because he forgot to wear his hat:) Memories.
This week started with MLK day and some sweet playdoh building. Then Clark went back to school Tuesday (mercifully) and Charlotte...stayed home with me??? Yeah, so that whole "test her and you can send her back on Tuesday" bit didn't work because, honestly, I don't know. Everyone is confused about the new covid rules at school. Can you test to stay? Can preschoolers keep masks on? Can you go back if someone in your house has covid but you are vaxxed? Do you need to be boosted? It's the worst. Anyway, they told me no and then 2 hours later they said yeah send her. So she went back Wednesday to a sad little class of 3 kids while the other 12 keep quarantining.
To eat up the time we played with Mom's makeup and turned ourselves into glamour queens.
Also she had this super perfect adorable little ringlet that just showed up out of nowhere. I wanted to cut it off and keep it forever.
It's Thursday the 20th now. We managed to make it back to school today, some of the snow has melted, and we ripped our utility sink out of the mudroom to make room for vacuums (which some say I have an obsession with but I clearly do not!) January...just get over yourself and please exit the building.
