Our big adventure this summer was a long, slow, winding trip down to Colorado and Utah to see the sisters and the sights and the cousins.
Twin Falls was our first stop, just for the night at a sweet airbnb with great toys and rowdy children. The falls were seriously cool and someday we will return to hike all around.
The second day we coasted through Flaming Gorge which was so amazing that somehow I forgot to take any photos except this one of the kids feeding ducks. But trust me - it was amazing. Great views from the visitors center (minus the smoke) and a really cool dam. It was a welcome stop from the ugly drive.
That night we stayed in a super sketch place in Rock Springs which I am going to wipe from my memory. Wyoming was redeemed slightly by the sighting of the Oscar Meyer Weenie Mobile in a McDonald's drive thru! Mom was excited to say the least and now Charlotte has "hot dog car" in her vocab so my work is done.
When we finally arrived in Colorado (along with all the smoke) we found lovely cousins ready to chat and show off their awesome parks. The first night we walked to their aquatic center for this inside park where Charlotte practiced being a gopher:)
Then we went back home to relax and try on high heels. Sure. Why not?
We spent an evening camping and waiting for a meteor shower that was sadly covered by the smoke. And when I say "we" I really mean "everyone else" because Char and I bailed at night to sleep in real beds. Still...super fun day of hammock sitting and playing at the lake.
Once again, Aunt Kristina drew the short straw and got to take all the babies out on the SUP. Charlotte flat refused to get off for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th voyage out so the water baby won again.
Eagle eye Nat spotted a tiny frog and that was the rest of the afternoon spent scaring this poor frog half to death, building it a tiny frog pond and then finally releasing it into the ocean.
Oh and Uncle Fred picked a fight with my oldest...and lost. Look at that grin:)
The next day we toured around Regis University with Fred at the guide showing us the cool history of this Jesuit University and this really really really cool old award winning tree. Apparently you can even reserve it for class.
That night we had dinner downtown at a neat building top garden where Dave works. They had a full basketball court and beautiful flowers. Clark immediately buddied up with cousin Noah for the night and Charlotte got her steps in when we headed to the river.
Saturday we put Dad on a plane and headed off to Utah, stopping to take a dinosaur photo and get a big ice cream cone before coasting passed a huge wildfire in Parley's Canyon on our way into SLC.
Where we...swam and played and wore ourselves out with more cousins...and more smoke:(
It was a super fun trip. Clark loved sleeping with Anders and listening to his audio books. He especially loved Miles and Isaac sharing all their toys and basketball hoops. He has become obsessed with Santa bringing him a Switch like Anderson has (good thing Santa already ordered it on Prime) and he seriously just ran himself ragged everyday.
Miss Char brought a lot of charm and vomit to the equation. Oh yes, I said vomit. Maybe it was the smoke. Maybe it was the hours in the pool. Maybe it was just for fun. But two nights in a row in Utah Mom got to enjoy hacking coughs and phlegm vomit. Sometimes she would be fast asleep and still vomiting on the towel while I held her limp body. Such a weird couple of nights. But otherwise she was a dream - doing puzzles with Isla and singing Doc McStuffins with Nat and being her usual chipper funny self.
