It's like a frozen wonderland over here, people. Brrrr... We got snow and ice and half of the country is in rolling blackouts because of snow (yes, even our Texas cousins are feeling the brrr). We spent a cold couple of days making forts and just being weird and then...
...we hopped a plane to sunny Cabo, Mexico! Yup, it happened fast. Mom and Dad had to cancel our trip on the 20th and Sarah suggested maybe we tag along with them on the 7th. After some quick ticket switcherooing, we also wrangled Kristina and Fred into joining us. Super random sisters + hubbies + our kids trip!! Woo hoo.We had a tense ride over the snowy pass Sunday nd practically ran to the gate after a huge delay checking our bags but otherwise, the plane ride went smooth. Miss Char mostly kept her mask on and ate all the snacks and watched movies.
Mr. Clark loved his game and chatting with Aunt Kristina (who happened to be on our flight!) and Dana had a great chat with Fred before his water bottle woke up half the plane as it bounced merrily down the aisle.
Charlotte passed out as soon as we got in Sarah's car and we got our first view of sunny paradise.
We stayed in an airbnb in the Pedregal neighborhood and it was awesome! Easy to walk to the shops and marina. Great pool for the kids. Only 3 bedrooms so the kiddos bunked with us (and yeah, sleep was not so awesome) but all in all a great location.
Monday we headed to the famous arch. Dana did some smooth negotiating to get us on a boat and we spent the afternoon in the water and on the famous Lovers/Divorce beach.
Yeah, our kids were happy. Divorce beach is on the Pacific side so the waves were HUGE but Lovers beach was calm enough that Clark could wave in and Charlotte...played on this rock. Our baby is weird. Tuesday was pool day and the beach. Clark was pretty hesitant but Char just threw herself face first into the pool like always.
Sarah took us to a great snorkel beach where everyone but me and the kiddos had a try at seeing cool fish underwater. It was a rockier type of beach which meant no great walks but it was sunny and our kids didn't seem to mind. In fact, Clark found half a beach worths of coral for Taylor. Wednesday we went all over the marina and bought the kids tiny turtle magnets...which made it until the next shop when Char dropped hers and the head popped off. Ah, travel with children.

That afternoon, we headed down to see some whales and the kids found a fountain to play in, of course.
The rest of the afternoon was pool time!
Friday we woke up, headed to the airport, held Charlotte down while a nice Mexican nurse jabbed a covid test up her nose, and then anxiously waited 40 minutes until the results came back negative (HALLELUJAH!). Our whole group was negative which was a great blessing.
The whales were AMAZING!! We saw a mother and baby first and it was kind of, meh. But then we found a juvenile humpback who was just having the time of his life in the rough waters. Clark was enthralled. Char was mostly happy to be wrapped in a towel on Dana's lap but even she called out "wheeal" a few times. And I got sick. Naturally. Still worth it.
This is pelican rock
A pelican
Lovers beach
More pelicans
The hole in the wall. This will someday turn into another arch. You can see from the cove side to the pacific side.
The famous arch!
A sealion...or seal. I couldn't tell the difference.
Lands end. Literally the last piece of the peninsula. Also, the last land on it's latitude until you hit antarctica.
The start of all the whale jumping photos. Seriously, even our guide was losing her mind over how much he was breeching.
Clark was pretty sure he was waving at him every time he did this. Super cute.
Thursday the whole group minus Fred, Me and the kiddos got up super early to head up to La Paz for swimming with whale sharks. This is how I kept the kids quiet so I could catch some extra zzzs:)
While they were gone, we had the longest, sweatiest walk trying to find Medano beach and when we inevitably failed, we stumbled upon a dolphin show that fit the bill nicely. Plus now Char can do a very accurate dolphin call. The rest of the afternoon was pool time!
And here's the crazy whale shark people. Kristina said it was amazing but soo cold. They would get in and swim for a bit, then have to trade into the boat. Dana said the best part was the tacos on the most beautiful beach. Typical:) Kristina said her favorite part was when Dana was right next to the dorsal fin and went under with his mask on (not realizing the whale shark was RIGHT THERE) and may have dropped an explitive when he came back up because he was so startled. HAHAHA!
The french girl who got tacked onto their group and who Dana was apparently flirting with mercilessly (just kidding babe:)
Once the sharks were done they did a beach lunch and then swam with sea lions. While is was sort of cool to see the coral reef (which apparently makes a crackling sound underwater) Dana said it was obvious you were swimming in feces and that was pretty icky:(
I have no picture of the plane ride back. Really, who takes pictures when they are in the 7th circle of hell? Let's just say, Miss Char does not travel well without her nap. Finally, we got out of the airport into freezing, snowy Seattle only to have to battle our way across the pass.
And then, if it couldn't get any funnier, we walked into our house at 11PM to find that our "smart" thermostat got "dumb" during the week and set our house temp to 41 degrees. 41 degrees!! I am not making this up! It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cold. So cold. We dressed the kids in front of the space heater and piled about 10 blankets on them. Then we tried to snuggle into our bed in our thermals. News flash - temperpedic mattresses, when cold, turn into solid stone! It was hilarious and sad. The house warmed up around 4AM and we had a restful Saturday getting back to normal.
Well...as normal as we ever get anyway:)
*side note - Kristina and Fred caught the worst of the massive storm. Their flight to Seattle was cancelled on Saturday and they spent 24 hours bopping around to LAX and other fun cities before getting home. Even Sarah and Taylor were delayed 3 hours on Sunday. But we had the time of our lives and enough food to keep me from losing weight. Let's do it again soon...but this time, no kids.
