Big growing up stages over here at the Gailan household. First came the bike, then this...
A teeny tiny backpack! What the cuteness? Sorry the photo is a little blurry. He refused to stand still. And yes, he is wearing a lay and no, I cannot remember why exactly. Yup, he has his first backpack courtesy of Kindercare who decided this is how they will transport diapers, wipes, etc. from now on. It's has cars on it. Big surprise.
What else? Oh yes, so I firmly believe everyone has that one thing that they dreamed and dreamed of buying once they had a child. For me, it was those ridiculously overpriced balloons in the mall that hoover as you walk. Stupid? Yes. Super cute? Totally! I finally caved one Saturday while Dana was home studying and I was trying to entertain Clark in the mall (cause it was still freezing in late April). We'd been up and down escalators; he'd freaked out on the tractors and then...balloon heaven. He saw the car and went ballistic. So I bought it. He was so cute walking around the mall, looking back every few seconds and giggling because it was following him. Worth it!

A new cousin arrived: Natalie Fiel Washburn. Clark didn't really get her but he was happy as a clam to have a Saturday to hang with Anderson. They watched the Trolls movie and he even swayed a little during the Justin Timberlake song so that's progress.

This was the first year Clark actually participated in the gardening - if you call stabbing the soil with a screwdriver "participating" (which we do). He was more interested in kicking the ball and pulling leaves off poor defenseless tomato plants. But thanks to Dana we now have a very awesome garden...and a nicely weeded side yard:) Hopefully everything will grow once it, you know, isn't freezing. We have tomatoes, squash, zucchini, jalapenos, and walla walla onions. Herbs to come soon.

And last but certainly not least - it's potty time. We were feeling like it was anyway but then we got a nice passive aggressive note from Kindercare stating they need him potty trained by June 12th so he can move to the Preschool class. Not sure that's gonna happen but we're gonna try. We bought big boy day of the week underwear, pull ups with Thomas, and a teeny tiny potty seat that haunts my dreams. The first weekend went fine but he's kind of stalled in the last two weeks. It's not that he can't do it, it's the motivation. Playing with cars are so much more fun than sitting on the potty. He's already lost one pair of underoos to a big ol poop but so far no more. And then one day he announced he was going potty by himself and a few minutes later somehow this happened. Eh - at least he got the pull up back up. A for effort buddy, C for results.

Wish us luck!
