First, the annual Ellensburg Rodeo is now a funny tradition where we either freeze or fry (this year was a fry year) and make fun of rodeo princesses and lots and lots of cowboys. Poor Charlotte spent the entire thing hidden under a blanket.
Clark actually grabbed a piece of candy one time before he spent the rest of the parade on Dana's lap but hey that's progress. It might have had something to do with the fact that Ellensburg invests more in cowboys and less in the loud firetrucks. Just guessing.
One Saturday Dana really wanted to wash the cars. He got Clark involved and now our entire garage had water stains. Clark and I have also been going a lot to storytime at the museum. It's mostly screaming kids and a five minute story but sometimes the symphony comes which is awesome. Clark likes to sit in this creepy yellow train car and just watch the other kids. Super creepy.
It's been a lazy summer because of all the smoke from the fires that literally surrounded our region for three full weeks (yeah SUPER fun - NOT!) It made for some serious cabin fever. Clark has been watching a lot of TV. Little Einsteins, Curious George and Mighty Machines are the current favs. Mighty Machines is the bizarre 1994 Canadian show about garbage trucks. Yeaaaaa. Okay.
One other funny memory is Dana going in a little after bedtime and finding this. We aren't sure what he was trying to reach with his bed up on the dresser but we had a good laugh.
Football season has transformed our once basketball only casa. Clark is now obsessed. Sarah and Taylor shipped him a football which just added to the insanity (pictured below was the tiny baby football we had before the new awesome football arrived). We didn't, however, have a helmet but never fear...buckets are here. He wears it all the time and it's so tight that he'll start to sweat but still refuses to take it off.
Still rocking gymnastics. He follows directions very well now and can do a bridge, summersalt and a backbend really well.
He helped me decorate cupcakes one day and actually did a decent job. Baking together is one of the highlights of our day. Another photo of him in his little Cardinals jersey. He looks so grown up in his jeans and jersey.
Oh how to explain these next two? He loves being naked after bath time and we had a smiley face balloon that he also loved - you do the math. Then he wanted to get fancy drinking his water out of his new plastic flute glass. Note how his pinkie is popped. Yeah that's how we do it at the Gailan abode.
Can't forget little miss. Charlotte spends the days lounging in whatever position we leave her in and getting annoyed with tummy time and sometimes sleeping. We're trying a new formula because she is miss spit up lately and so far so good. She is always crazy hungry and prefers to be held all. the. time but if you hold her she will give you a smile so it's a fair trade.
Oh yes, can't forget this memory. So during the middle of this smoke induced house arrest Dana and I both developed MRSA staph infections. I seriously wish I could wipe that week from my memory. It's the most pain I've been in ever. Mine was on my face and the swelling was mostly internal so I could barely eat and was popping pain pills like an addict. Dana's was on his arm and way nastier. Here's a photo after he finally went it to get it drained and the cool bandaids they gave him to treat it. It took a full 5 days for us to start feeling normal and man do we hope that never happens again!
Okay back to the happy. Clark and Charlotte together have started to be so cute. He will pet her and kiss her cheeks and I'll find random toys or balls sitting in her chair like he left it for her to play with. Super adorable.
We also managed to get two visits in with the TriCities Gailans for Clark's other BFF, Stella. These two! Matt took them to the playground while I went to Kristen's baby shower (ETA November 2017!) and they had the best time. Clark held her hand while they walked to keep her safe and would let her go first down the slide. Little gentleman.
Dana also took him to the Washington State Fair where Matt snapped this classic. Why does he look like an old timey villain about to take down the sheriff? Clark loved the animal pens but refused to feed them even when Grandpa Gailan bought him a little cup of feed.
Ending on charlotte. She's started playing more and will now smile and kick at the elephant. We also set up her Jumperoo which she is way too little for but whatever. She likes sitting it it and Clark is wild about all the toys that spin and shake so at least one kid is getting something out of it.
The smoke officially went away last week and so we've resumed walks just as summer winds to an end. Looking forward to the start of the holiday season and some cooler days.
