On Saturday we cleaned, dejunked, shopped for a bedspread and somehow ended up back on the golf course (Dana is one persuasive man). We felt the need to go organic after our outdoor adventure so we stopped at a fruit stand for dried apples and Rainier cherries. Oh yeah, we felt super granola.
Sunday was walks and church and meetings and trying to get MiaMaids to plan a picnic which is harder than you would think. We slaved over dinner (chicken tikka masala) and then watched a horrible zombie movie. We seriously need some good movie recommendations if you have them.
On Monday we woke early for a flag ceremony and blueberry pancakes with the ward. Then we headed to Dana's parents for a BBQ. Then, in a test of stomach capacity, we ventured down to Moxee for a block party with the Grow family. We set off some daytime fireworks: I call this one the sun stare (that's not a good game, Brian)
And here I am lighting a bush on fire with my tiny sparkler
The kids were really excited by the booby traps, popits, and the pooping chickens. Okay, who comes up with these names?
The ultimate plan was to stay until 10PM to watch the Yakima fireworks from their roof but by 8:30 the weekend had caught up with the middle aged Gailans (I think 27 is the new 50). We headed home to watch the fireworks from the comfort of our house (which conveniently has a great view of the fairgrounds). We laid on our bed and enjoyed a great fireworks show (made even better with the random comments of the people who decided to camp out on the lawn below our bedroom window.) It was a great weekend and a great start to my birthday week (yeah, I get a whole week...don't you?). Happy Birthday, America!
